Slip through proxy -Http Tunnelling & Your Freedom

Posted by David in , ,

In this post I just intend to give you a few software which require only a small piece of client to be installed to bypass the proxy.

Well the most easy and efficient way to bypass any proxy is tunnelling. You see proxy servers cache your content requests and scan them for forbidden data. In my first suggestion I told you that encrypting the contents will render the proxy useless as it cannot read the data being transmitted. That is the reason why we go in for HTTPS web proxies. Typically in tunnelling this is what happens. You tunnel (ie encrypt the data) through the proxy server or firewall. Now there are loads of tunnelling software available. I will give you a few software below which are really quite effective.

Your Freedom

Now this software requires you to have a free account and once you download and install the client you can log in and begin browsing. The instructions are simple. When you install the software make sure that you give in your proxy server address if you have one so that in can connect to the net through it.Also select it to run local HTTP proxy in port 8080 and SOCKS proxy in port 1080.

For further details look into the software setup instructions in the website. Remember that they have a restrictive free service, so there are several restrictions like download limit, bandwidth limit and also automatic disconnection after one hour and so on.

This is how your freedom works or as a matter of fact almost all the tunnelling applications work.

Assume your firewall blocks hotmail. So every time you visit hotmail you get a error message. This is how your-freedom bypasses this restriction. Your web browser connects to the your freedom client on your pc through the local proxy say port 8080. Then your freedom client sends the request in a encrypted manner to its server so that your corporate firewall or proxy does not read its contents. Your freedom server fetches the data from the hotmail web server and sends it to the client on your pc in encrypted manner and the web browser gets the decrypted data from the client. Simple!!

HTTP  Tunnel

This software is similar to your freedom. The advantage with this is that it does not disconnect after an hour's connectivity.

TIP: Usually proxy servers and firewalls block uncommon ports. Suppose you wish to connect to a web service running on some out of ordinary port say 1693 it might get blocked. So choose the software which makes use of common ports like 80 or 443.

There is another software called pingfu  http://www.artofping.com/ .

Google up http tunnel and you will come up with some more software. But beware they all charge you for premium services and for free service they are restrictive. If you want to enjoy unlimited access with out being charged then you need to setup your own server. I will discuss about those software and mechanisms in subsequent posts.
